Are you a power tool enthusiast? Whether you're a dedicated DIYer or a weekend warrior, if you need a new table or bed, you don't head to IKEA—you go to Home Depot. But how well do you really know your power tools? Can you identify them just by looking at their pictures?

The history of power tools dates back to 1895, when engineers combined an electric motor with a manual drill. It might not seem like a big deal now, but remember, this was only about 16 years after Thomas Edison invented the incandescent electric lamp. The early electric drill wasn't easy to use. It weighed nearly twenty pounds and required two hands to operate while multitasking. Plus, it was slow, perhaps even too slow to be effective. But it was a beginning. By 1916, two now-famous men, Black and Decker, took the original concept and modified it using the Colt .45 handgun as inspiration. They created a trigger-switch electric drill, the ancestor of all modern power tools.

The journey from the first power tool to the sanders, drills, and saws you use today is a long one, filled with trial and error, lost fingers, and plenty of bumps and bruises. Do you think you can identify all these modern power tools? You've likely seen them before and probably used many of them. But can you name them? Take this quiz to see if you're as handy as you think!
